In Memory of Our Dignity
Installations Around Providence
Posters
Coming from a very liberal community I was very surprised by how the people of Providence people of color, especially Asians. I knew a lot of people at RISD and Brown felt the same so I created a spreadsheet where people could add their experiences with racism as an Asian. Along with their experience I asked for people to include the date and location where it happened. I created posters based off of the submissions and installed them at the location where it happened. I was inspired by roadside memorials from car accidents and memorial plaques at historic landmarks because to me, when someone makes a racist remark towards me, I remember that spot forever and remember that a part of me and my dignity died at that moment.
